Tensioning Standard 2-Pulley V-Belt Drives With a compression Tension Gauge:
1. Measure the span length P. (diagram within the images)
2. Divide span length P in inches by 64, then set the large o-ring on this calculation, i.e. if P measures 16” then set the o-ring at 16/64” (or 1/4”) of deflection.
3. Set the small o-ring on the deflection force scale to zero.
4. Place the tension gauge directly on one belt at the center of the span. Push down on the v-belt tension gauge until the large o-ring lines up with a straight edge laid across the back of the belt pulley-to-pulley.
5. Remove the v-belt tension gauge and read the force applied by looking and the position of the small o-ring.
6. Force applied should match the tabel amount shown on the back of this page. If not, tighten or loosen the belt until the force is correct.
Note: For banded v-belts, the force in the table is shown per rib, i.e for a 5-rib belt you must mulitply the force in the table for a single belt by 5.
