3V, 5V, 8V Banded V-Belts
The Benefits of Banded V-Belts
In many applications, a single sheave will be running multiple belts at the same time. These belts are running side-by-side, and they must be exactly the same length.
Each belts in this set would have the same part number. However, it is possible that each belt would have a slightly different length. The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) has set a tolerance level of 45/64-inch. For example, two different B50 belts could have a 45/64-inch difference in length.
If all the belts used in a set are not exactly the same length, problems will arise. It is more difficult to tension each belt in the set properly. Uneven tensioning lessens the belt’s effectiveness and shortens the belt’s life.
To avoid a set of belts with different lengths:
Purchase a matched set of belts.
A matched set of belts is any group of belts that comes from the same run.
Or use banded belts
Banded belts. This is the best option for the following reasons:
Equal Tension - As long as the sheaves have been properly aligned, you don't have to worry about one side of the belt being tensioned more than the other. This increases effictiveness and life of the belt.
Equal Length - When this style of belt is manufactured, all the belts are the same length and a common back is applied, giving the belt more rigidity and stability.
Ease of Installation - A banded belt only needs to be installed once. As long as you have adequate room for adjustment, you can usually slide the belt over the sheaves.
Note: Banded belts are often used on applications where a multi-groove sheave is present.
